Drug Uses
Celexa is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, and is used to treat depression. Celexa helps to keep the right balance of chemicals in the brain and this prevents depression.

How Taken
Celexa comes as a tablet taken orally. The general dosage for Celexa is one tablet a day. It can be taken with or without a meal. For best effect Celexa should be taken regularly for a couple of weeks. Even you feel better do not stop taking Celexa without your doctor`s approval. Do not take more or less of this drug, than your doctor has prescribed to you.

Warnings/Precautions
You may not be able to take Celexa or you may need dosage adjustment or monitoring while you are taking Celexa if you have liver or kidney disease, suffer form seizures, or from mania or have suicidal thoughts. Before taking Celexa tell your doctor if you have any of the above. Consult you doctor if you have any allergies, especially if you have had allergic reaction to Celexa in the past. This drug is in the FDA pregnancy category C, which means that studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the fetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women, or studies in women and animals are not available. Also it is known that Celexa passes into breast milk. Therefore, do not take Celexa without your doctor`s approval if you are pregnant, likely to become pregnant or breast feeding.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects of Celexa are– Nausea, dry mouth, sleepiness, increase in sweating. The most common side effect of Celexa is sexual problems in male patients.

Storage
Store this medication at room temperature 15–30°C (59–86°F). Keep away from children and excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).

Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek immediate medical attention. Most common symptoms of Celexa overdose, alone or in combination with other drugs and/or alcohol are– dizziness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, tremor, somnolence, sinus tachycardia. In rare cases, symptoms may include amnesia, confusion, coma, convulsions, hyperventilation, cyanosis, rhabdomyolysis, and ECG changes.

More Information
Be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities. Be careful when taking alcohol during your treatment. It may increase drowsiness and dizziness while you are taking Celexa.
