Drug Uses
Diovan is used for treatment of high blood pressure alone or with other medicines. It is also used for treating heart failure in patients who do not tolerate angiotensin–converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors.

How Taken
Use Diovan as directed by your doctor. Take Diovan with or without a meal. Take Diovan on a regular schedule to get the most benefit from it.

Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Diovan, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Diovan, if you have dehydration or low blood sodium, or kidney or liver problems, if you have heart failure or you have had a heart attack, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. Do not take Diovan after the third month of pregnancy. It may cause injury or death to the fetus. If you become pregnant, contact your doctor right away. It is not known if Diovan is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast–feeding while you use Diovan, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby. Some medicines may interact with Diovan. Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Patients who take medicine for high blood pressure often feel tired or run down for a few weeks after starting treatment. Be sure to take your medicine even if you may not feel "normal." Tell your doctor if you develop any new symptoms. Check with your doctor before you use a salt substitute or a product that has potassium in it. Lab tests, including blood pressure monitoring, may be performed while you use Diovan. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments. Diovan should not be used in children. Safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are– Back pain, cough, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, joint pain, nausea, runny nose, sinus inflammation, sore throat, stomach pain, swelling, tiredness, upper respiratory tract infection, viral infection. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately– allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, and swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), decreased urination, fainting, irregular heartbeat, and muscle pain, severe or persistent dizziness.

Storage
Store Diovan at 77 °F (25 °C), excursions permitted to 59 to 86 °F (15 to 30 °C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Diovan out of the reach of children.

Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately. Some of the symptoms of Diovan overdose are– lightheadedness especially upon standing, very fast or slow heartbeat.

More Information
Diovan may cause drowsiness or dizziness. These effects may worsen if Diovan is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Diovan with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Diovan should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor
