Drug Uses
Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) is used to treat uncomplicated illness caused by influenza infection. Tamiflu is also very effective in treatment of birdflu and swine flu.

How Taken
Tamiflu comes in capsules for oral administration. Tamiflu can be taken with or without a meal. However, when taken with a meal, the effect from this drug will be better. You should begin treatment within 2 days of onset of symptoms of influenza. The general dosage of Tamiflu is 75 mg two times a day for 5 days. For flu prevention it is recommended to take 75mg once a day for 10 days.

Warnings/Precautions
Tamiflu is not a substitute for a flu vaccination. You should continue receiving an annual flu vaccination. Before taking Tamiflu, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances, if you are allergic to any ingredient of Tamiflu, or if you have kidney problems. It is not recommended to take Tamiflu during pregnancy as the effects on the unborn child are not known. Therefore, do not take Tamiflu without your doctor's approval if you are breast feeding, pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is within 2 hours of your next scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Possible Side Effects
Some of the possible side effects are– nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dizziness, headache, cough, insomnia, fatigue.

Storage
Keep Tamiflu out of the reach of children. Store at 25°C (77°F). Do not freeze.

Overdose
If overdose is suspected, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include severe dizziness, fainting,nausea and vomiting.

More Information
Tamiflu is well tolerated and has minimum negative intercations with other medications, however before taking Tamiflu you should inform your doctor if you are taking any other medication.
